Muller Optik – A Progressive Lens Specialist Optical Shop

Muller Optik – A Progressive Lens Specialist Optical Shop

A key strength of Muller Optik is specialized expertise in progressive lenses. This expertise is supported by dispensing over 1,400 pairs of progressive lenses, offering more than 10 types of progressive trial lens sets, receiving certifications from organizations and lens manufacturers, and having extensive hands-on experience assembling every pair of progressive lenses in-house.

Expertise in Progressive Lenses

One of the key strengths of Muller Optik is genuine expertise in progressive lenses. It is important to understand that progressive lenses are highly complex optical devices. Completing formal education as an ophthalmologist, optometrist, or even an optician does not automatically make someone an expert in this type of lens. In fact, some educational institutions do not offer dedicated coursework specifically focused on progressive lenses.

Therefore, true expertise in progressive lenses requires the accumulation of extensive experience, specialized knowledge, and continuous practice. Only through these factors can a practitioner develop a deep understanding and genuine proficiency in dispensing and fitting progressive lenses.

Before Muller Optik developed, we specialized in progressive lenses; we required more than simply being an “optometrist” or an “optician.” Achieving this level of expertise has depended on several important factors, as follows:

We have dispensed more than 1,400 pairs of progressive lenses to correct presbyopia.

This is not merely a promotional claim. Our computerized patient records indicate that over the past 7–8 years, we have provided progressive lenses to at least 1,400 patients to address age-related near-vision issues. Our records also indicate a success rate of approximately 90%, meaning that about 9 out of every 10 patients can adapt successfully to progressive lenses.

These statistics have provided us with extensive experience in progressive lenses. Through this experience, we have gained a clear understanding of which visual needs are most suitable for progressive lenses, the types of eyeglass frames that work best with them, and how to effectively address the various issues that may arise when patients initially have difficulty adapting to progressive lenses.

This number serves as clear empirical evidence of Muller Optik’s specialized expertise in progressive lenses. It also reflects the valuable experience we have gained in helping individuals with presbyopia successfully correct their vision using progressive lenses.

Muller Optik offers a wide variety of progressive lens trial sets.

In addition to our experience in dispensing more than 1,400 pairs of progressive lenses, the availability of a “Progressive Trial Lens Set” is another key factor that contributes to Muller Optik’s specialized expertise in progressive lenses.

These trial lenses allow customers to experience progressive lenses directly during their first trial, rather than relying solely on imagination before ordering their final lenses. They also enable our optometrists and opticians to more accurately evaluate which progressive lens design or structure is most suitable for each customer’s visual needs.

Our progressive trial lenses are not limited to a single brand or design.
Instead, we offer more than 10 different types, providing a wide range of options for addressing different visual needs and lifestyle requirements.

At Muller Optik, the following progressive trial lens sets are available for use:

  • Zeiss Progressive Precision Plus

  • Zeiss Progressive Precision Pure

  • Zeiss Progressive Smartlife Pure

  • Zeiss Progressive Light2 3Dv

  • Nikon Progressive Presio Master

  • Nikon Progressive Presio Power

  • Hoya Progressive Dynamic Premium

  • Essilor Progressive Varilux Comfort

  • TOG Progressive Idio

  • Kodak Progressive set

In addition to progressive lens simulators, if our assessment indicates that progressive lenses may not be the most suitable option, we may recommend other types of lenses instead, such as office lenses or anti-fatigue lenses. We also provide a variety of simulators for these types of lenses, allowing patients to experience different options and choose the most appropriate solution for their visual needs.

This clearly reflects how much importance we place on the use of trial lens sets—both for progressive lenses and other types of lenses. By utilizing these trial lens sets, we are able to more effectively evaluate how well a customer is likely to adapt to progressive lenses before placing a final order. Our goal is to ensure that each customer receives the most suitable solution, and to avoid situations where progressive glasses are made but cannot be worn comfortably or remain unused.

Muller Optik’s expertise in progressive lenses has been recognized and certified by various educational institutions and lens manufacturers.

Claiming expertise in any field should always be supported by proper certification or evaluation from recognized institutions. Simply being an ophthalmologist, an optometrist, or an optician does not automatically make someone a specialist in progressive lenses. True expertise requires formal recognition, assessment, and continuous professional development in this specific area.

Muller Optik places great importance on continuously developing knowledge in the field of progressive lenses. Our expertise is not based solely on practical experience; it is also grounded in sound academic principles. This commitment applies both to the professionals who serve our customers—our optometrists and opticians, as well as to the overall professional standards upheld by Muller Optik.

At the organizational level, Muller Optik has received various recognitions and designations from professional organizations and lens manufacturers that certify our expertise, as follows:

  • Member of the Optics Academic Promotion Association of Thailand

  • Nikon Partner Gold 2024–2026 (Awarded to the optical shop with the highest number of successful Nikon lens dispensings)

  • Zeiss Vision Partner 2021–2026 (Awarded to optical shops with a high number of successful Zeiss lens dispensings)

  • Essilor Expert Bronze 2023–2024 (Awarded to the optical shop with the third-highest number of successful Essilor lens dispensings)

Our service professionals, including the optometrists and opticians at our shop, have also received certifications and participated in various professional training programs.

  • Our optician has been certified with a Level 5 Professional Qualification in the Health Service field, in the occupation of Refraction and Optical Dispensing, awarded by the Professional Qualification Institute in collaboration with the Optics Academic Promotion Association of Thailand.

  • Our optometrists participate in annual professional training programs organized by the Optometry Association of Thailand.

All of the above serve as a strong affirmation of Muller Optik’s specialized expertise in progressive lenses.

Did you know that not every optical shop assembles progressive lenses in-house?

In many cases, when progressive lenses are ordered from lens manufacturers, the shop can request the manufacturer to assemble the lenses as well. This is done by sending the eyeglass frame from the shop to the lens company, where the lenses are then fitted and assembled into the frame before being returned to the shop.

This process may lead to several potential issues. For example, the delivery of the glasses may be delayed, frames sent to the manufacturer may occasionally be misplaced, the glasses may be returned without proper frame adjustment, or customers may not be able to wait at the shop to have the lenses replaced immediately in their existing frames.

More importantly, relying entirely on external assembly may cause the shop’s staff to miss valuable hands-on experience. As a result, they may not develop sufficient expertise or specialized skills in assembling progressive lenses, particularly in understanding the important relationship between matching progressive lenses with the most suitable eyeglass frames.

In some cases, unsuccessful adaptation to progressive lenses is often caused by factors such as:

  • Inaccurate lens assembly (the lens’s optimal viewing zone does not align with the wearer’s visual axis)

  • Improper pairing with an unsuitable eyeglass frame

  • Failure to properly adjust the frame according to the standard fitting parameters recommended by different lens brands

Therefore, it is not surprising that optical shops that assemble lenses in-house may gain more experience in successfully fitting progressive lenses than those that outsource the assembly process.

This does not mean that outsourcing lens assembly is necessarily inferior. However, it may increase the possibility of certain issues arising, such as those mentioned earlier.

At Muller Optik, every progressive lens is edged in-house using the Essilor Delta 300 edging machine from France. This highly precise system utilizes advanced digital 3D technology and represents an investment of over 800,000 THB.

Combined with the experience of our opticians, who work closely with our optometrists, this allows us to assemble progressive lenses with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Our in-house progressive lens assembly process includes the following:

  • Optician “Folk” – 9 years of experience in assembling progressive lenses

  • Optician “Rath” – 4 years of experience in assembling progressive lenses

For these reasons, we are confident that Muller Optik possesses genuine specialized expertise in progressive lenses, particularly in the assembly of progressive lenses. This confidence is based on proven experience and professional practice, not merely on assumption.

However, we remain committed to continually improving and further developing our knowledge and expertise in progressive lenses.

We do not claim to be “perfect” in the field of progressive lenses. However, we are supported by four key factors:

  • Experience in dispensing more than 1,400 pairs of progressive lenses

  • Availability of more than 10 types of progressive lens trial sets

  • Professional recognition in progressive lenses from various organizations and lens manufacturers

  • Hands-on experience in assembling every progressive lens in-house

These factors provide clear, tangible evidence that our shop is truly one of the few optical shops in Chiang Mai with genuine specialized expertise in progressive lenses. Our expertise is based on proven experience and professional standards, not merely self-claim, and can be trusted with confidence.

We maintain a progressive lens dispensing a success rate of approximately 90%. For the remaining 10%, we continue to study the cases carefully, work to resolve the issues, and use the insights gained to improve our knowledge and services further. We firmly believe that our ongoing efforts to better understand progressive lenses ultimately benefit the customers who place their trust in our practice.

“Professional Ethics”
We do not exaggerate the benefits of progressive lenses. If we believe a patient may not adapt well to them, we will provide honest and straightforward recommendations.

“Professional Knowledge”
We prescribe progressive lenses based on sound academic principles and practical experience, without guesswork.

“Responsibility”
We provide ongoing care and follow-up after dispensing progressive lenses to ensure the best possible outcome for our customers.
