Our computerized patient records indicate that over the past 7–8 years, we have provided progressive lenses to at least 1,400 patients to address age-related near-vision issues. In addition to progressive lens simulators, if our assessment indicates that progressive lenses may not be the most suitable option, we may recommend other types of lenses instead, such as office lenses or anti-fatigue lenses. We also provide a variety of simulators for these types of lenses, allowing patients to experience different options and choose the most appropriate solution for their visual needs.

This clearly reflects how much importance we place on the use of trial lens sets—both for progressive lenses and other types of lenses. By utilizing these trial lens sets, we are able to more effectively evaluate how well a customer is likely to adapt to progressive lenses before placing a final order. Did you know that not every optical shop assembles progressive lenses in-house?

In many cases, when progressive lenses are ordered from lens manufacturers, the shop can request the manufacturer to assemble the lenses as well. This is done by sending the eyeglass frame from the shop to the lens company, where the lenses are then fitted and assembled into the frame before being returned to the shop.

This process may lead to several potential issues. For example, the delivery of the glasses may be delayed, frames sent to the manufacturer may occasionally be misplaced, the glasses may be returned without proper frame adjustment, or customers may not be able to wait at the shop to have the lenses replaced immediately in their existing frames.

More importantly, relying entirely on external assembly may cause the shop’s staff to miss valuable hands-on experience. As a result, they may not develop sufficient expertise or specialized skills in assembling progressive lenses, particularly in understanding the important relationship between matching progressive lenses with the most suitable eyeglass frames.

In some cases, unsuccessful adaptation to progressive lenses is often caused by factors such as:

Inaccurate lens assembly (the lens’s optimal viewing zone does not align with the wearer’s visual axis)
Improper pairing with an unsuitable eyeglass frame
Failure to properly adjust the frame according to the standard fitting parameters recommended by different lens brands

Therefore, it is not surprising that optical shops that assemble lenses in-house may gain more experience in successfully fitting progressive lenses than those that outsource the assembly process.

This does not mean that outsourcing lens assembly is necessarily inferior. However, it may increase the possibility of certain issues arising, such as those mentioned earlier.

At Muller Optik, every progressive lens is edged in-house using the Essilor Delta 300 edging machine from France. This highly precise system utilizes advanced digital 3D technology and represents an investment of over 800,000 THB.

Combined with the experience of our opticians, who work closely with our optometrists, this allows us to assemble progressive lenses with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Our in-house progressive lens assembly process includes the following:
